LES Dysfunction.

Heartburn and Acid Reflux are the result of too much stomach acid.

GOAL: Deactivate the burning acid.

Method:

  • PPI Inhibitors: Prevacid, Prilosec or Nexium.

  • H2 Blockers: Tagamet and Zantac.

Roles of HCL and Pepsin

Stomach acid must be at a pH of 1.5- 2.2 to effectively close the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES) that separates the acid stomach environment from your esophagus.

A single dose of a PPI or H2 Blocker will raise the stomach pH to 6.0+
